Celebrate the wonder and diversity of cattle with this handdrawn coloured pencil caricature.
Jersey Cattle named after Jersey, one of the English Channel Islands from which they were originally brought to Britain from during the mid 1700’s. They are a smaller breed and are typically cream, light brown and yellow ochre in colour, though the bulls tend to be darker.
According to Reader’s Digest it is reported that in prehistoric times cattle were brought into the Channel Islands from Asia. Also later, sometime during the 700’s to 900’s whilst they were busy spreading across Europe, the Vikings brought their cattle to the Islands too. They interbred and the gentle, dainty but heat tolerant Jersey breed was born. For the last 200 years, somewhat controversially, outside influence from other cattle has been forbidden for the Jersey Cattle to keep them conserved and protected as a distinct breed.
